Duties and Responsibilities- * Collaborate with consultants and University departments to develop project scopes of work, coordinate design, and construction activities, ensuring alignment with program goals, campus design aesthetics, academic schedules, and campus operations.
- * Prepare, coordinate, and review architectural designs, drawings, specifications, and construction documents for building projects, including new construction, renovations, alterations, and repairs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and University codes, standards, and regulations.
- * Prepare or oversee the development of specifications that define planning objectives, space standards, and design criteria for long-range and phased campus development plans.
- * Coordinate with registered engineers during early project scoping and through construction to ensure civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems are fully integrated and consistent with architectural intent.
- * Oversee and inspect construction activities performed by licensed consultants and contractors to verify compliance with design intent, contract documents, and quality standards.
- * Evaluate and negotiate proposed Consultant contracts and modifications, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget impacts are appropriately addressed.
- * Prepare and/or review cost estimates and quantity takeoffs to support budgeting and project planning efforts.
- Conduct detailed assessments and provide comprehensive appraisals of buildings and other campus structures.
- * Maintain a database and inventory system with information supporting the space and physical assignment and utilization of all space under the control of UH West O’ahu.
- * Provide data analysis and conduct space utilization studies in support of the space allocation and physical planning functions of the campus.
- * Serve as a liaison and primary point of contact between consultants, contractors, and the University community, facilitating effective communication and issue resolution.
- * Create, review, and update drawings on AutoCAD or other BIM software as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Architecture or Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for professional architectural or engineering work; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of architecture or engineering as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with architecture or engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, spreadsheet software, AutoCAD software, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Revit.
Minimum Qualifications
- Registration as a professional architect or engineer in the State of Hawai'i.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, design, code compliance, building systems integration, construction documentation production, and delivering complex institutional projects.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, codes, and regulations related to architecture and engineering, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility standards, with demonstrated ability to apply these requirements in the planning and design of campus facilities.
- Working knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems to support effective coordination with engineering disciplines and ensure integrated architectural design solutions.
- Extensive knowledge of architectural and engineering standards, building construction, and applicable zoning, building, plumbing, and electrical codes.
