Responsibilities
- The Engineer I performs routine professional engineering work requiring the application of basic engineering principles and techniques, according to specific instructions and following well‑established practices; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- The Engineer II performs specific and limited professional engineering assignments requiring application of standard professional methods and techniques, which may involve minor phases of a broad project; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- The Engineer III performs moderately difficult professional engineering work in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation and/or evaluation of engineering projects or facilities or assists higher‑level engineers on more complex projects; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Legal Authorization to Work
:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. - Basic Education
: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in engineering. Relevant substitutions are described in the complete Minimum Qualification Requirements. - Engineering Experience
:
None required for Level I; one (1) year required for Level II; two (2) years required for Level III of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. - Driver's License
:
Some positions may require a valid driver's license. - Special Requirements

Persons considered for employment in positions requiring unescorted access to secured areas at the airport must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint‑based criminal history record check. Applicants must not have been convicted of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of the application. Persons considered for employment in positions requiring unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint‑based criminal history record check. Applicants must not have been convicted of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the date of appointment. The cost for the records check is the applicant's responsibility; upon hire the employee will be reimbursed when submitting the TWIC receipt to his or her supervisor. - Substitutions Allowed

:
Applicants who will graduate within three months and will meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon graduation will be accepted for examination. If you are graduating within three months with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university or a Master’s degree in a pertinent engineering field, please submit a copy of your official transcript and a letter from your department head or registrar verifying your current enrollment, expected graduation date, and major.
