Salary for Financial Institution Examiner I: $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I).
Salary for Financial Institution Examiner II: $6,043 to $7,531 per month (SR-24, Step D to I).

The purpose of the Field Examination Branch is to conduct examinations of regulated institutions to assess their financial condition and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Branch reviews, replies, and receives from institutions in response to examination findings to determine that corrective action has been implemented and to ensure that issues not requiring further attention are closed.
Financial Institution Examiner I:
The position primarily assists in the conduct of field and off‑site examinations of limited scope and complexity, usually of smaller regulated entities and other smaller financial institutions to determine solvency, soundness of management and policies, actions of officers and directors, and compliance under the laws.
Financial Institution Examiner II:
The position primarily conducts field and off‑site (in‑office) full scope examinations of financial institutions to determine solvency, soundness of management and policies, actions of officers and directors, and compliance under the laws.
Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.
General
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in any one or a combination of the following: (1) professional accounting or auditing experience; or (2) experience teaching accounting at the college or university level.
Specialized
Experience:
One (1) year for Financial Institution Examiner I and two (2) years for Financial Institution Examiner II.
Specialized Experience Examples:
- Professional experience in reviewing, analyzing and recommending or approving loan applications or investments;
- Professional experience in accounting or auditing related to the internal operations of a financial institution which provided the knowledge described above;
- Professional experience in reviewing, analyzing and recommending or approving investments or other actions involving the properties or monies of others held in trust by the institution;
- Professional accounting and/or auditing experience with an accounting firm where a substantial portion of the experience provided emphasis in auditing the business operations of financial institutions;
- Professional experience which involved the technical supervision of any one of the several departments or activities of a financial institution (e.g., consumer loan department supervisor) which required an overall knowledge of the policies and procedures of the financial institution and which provided the knowledge described above.
