Duties Summary

This position is located in the Livestock Disease Control Branch, Animal Industry Division of the Department of Agriculture. It involves conducting medical, scientific, regulatory activities in the detection, control, and eradication of animal diseases, including executing USDA-Hawaii Department of Agriculture Cooperative Agreement Work Plans.

Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and conducting veterinary field work for animal disease control and eradication programs; responding to calls from veterinarians and livestock producers; enforcing regulations; implementing emergency disease control plans; and performing related duties.

This role requires inter-island and out-of-state travel, and may involve overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Hawaii veterinary license or temporary permit (with a requirement to obtain a permanent license within six months).
  • Two (2) years of professional veterinary experience, with substitutions allowed for higher degrees.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Physical ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Must pass annual medical evaluation for respirator use, and be able to wear safety equipment.
