Boating and Ocean Recreation Manager I is a district chief who operationally manages and maintains a district‑wide boating and ocean recreation program. The manager oversees planning, organization, supervision, coordination, and promotion of operations and activities throughout the district.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operate and maintain small‑boat harbors, boat launch ramps, and other boating facilities in Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.
- Develop plans to meet needs of boating and general public, and coordinate implementation of boating registration and license/permit systems.
- Implement commercial ocean use permitting and vessel registration & titling programs.
- Coordinate and promote operations and activities of the boating and ocean recreation program in conformance with state laws and federal regulations.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- Two and one‑half (2½) years of progressively responsible marine or boating related professional work experience.
- One (1) year of professional experience in operational management of marine programs.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
