Title
Field Technician

Reports ToQC Supervisor
Principal Duties- Completes and submits daily compaction reports that include a detail drawing of test locations in the work area to the QC Supervisor, Project Managers and/or Project Engineers.
- Uses a nuclear gauge to test field density and sets up daily rolling patterns in the field.
- Chalks field density at specific locations for reference by inspectors, roller operators and forepersons.
- Works directly with roller operators to determine the appropriate number of passes for each roller to achieve the specified compaction.
- Cuts and tests core samples.
- Cuts and transports the appropriate number of cores at each location daily or by the next morning.
- Labels and submits cores to the Project Manager / Project Engineer with data thoroughly recorded on a standard transmittal form.
- Follows department protocol when handling and storing cores to ensure core quality and prevent damage during transport.
- Submits daily and weekly core reports to the QC Supervisor, Project Manager and/or Project Engineer in accordance with department procedures.
- Performs field sampling of hot mix asphalt (HMA) as determined by department protocol.
- Takes daily jobsite photos before and after paving and stores them in the department’s computer files.
- Checks daily with the Lab Technician and the QC Supervisor to assist with lab testing when compaction tests are not required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works independently and completes tasks in a timely manner.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Adapts to varying work hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, and is willing to travel to neighboring islands as required.
- Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
- Obtains necessary state of Hawaii airport security credentials (AOA, DBID, TWIC).
- Maintains up-to-date COVID‑19 vaccination status or provides valid exemption documentation.
- High school graduate with strong math and science aptitude.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and e‑mail; adaptable to in‑house software; adequate keyboarding speed.
- Good math skills to perform accurate calculations for daily tasks.
- Ability to read and understand job requirements and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in referencing plans for test locations.
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license with a favorable traffic abstract.
- Nuclear Gauge certification, or ability to obtain certification within the initial 90‑day introductory period.
- Experience with lift and transport of equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.
- Full COVID‑19 vaccination by December 8, 2021 or documentation of a valid exemption.
Salary: $25.00 per hour, based on experience and educational background.
