DESCRIPTION:
The P IT TRAVELING MAINTENANCE Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 3 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)
JOB FUNCTION:
Fabricates, installs, removes, and maintains refractories and insulations. Does concrete work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As an Insulator at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training attained. As an Insulator at the maximum level, performs the following duties:
* Works from blueprints, sketches, instruction manuals, and written or oral instructions.
* Fabricates, installs, or removes all boiler, turbine, pipe and duct insulation, including pads, finish coats and canvas or sheet metal coverings. Includes installing insulation pin studs with an insulpin type gun.
* Fabricates, installs or removes plastic and castable refractories; installation methods including gunniting. Lays and repairs firebrick, burner tiles, baffles, and furnace penetrations.
* Does concrete work including the constructing of forms, installation of steel, cement finishing of new capital construction projects, in addition to modifications or additions to existing plants.
* At the Journeyman level, directs the work of and trains personnel in lower classification on any or all of the above operations.
* Operates material handling and other equipment as required.
* Reports equipment problems or hazardous conditions observed to appropriate personnel.
* Records thorough description of work completed and communicates results as required.
* Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Plant Maintenance Assessment Selection System (MASS) test.
* Must have a minimum of 1 year work experience in general maintenance and labor in an industrial setting.
* Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
* Must have or be able to pass requirements for respirator use.
* Must pass Job Sample Test.
* Must pass a Job Qualification Test to progress to next 12 month level on wage scale (Insulator 2nd and Insulator 3rd Year).
* Must pass Job Performance Test to progress to 4th Year (second to the last step of pay schedule).
4th Year:
* Employees/applicants who meet the following requirement shall start at the 2nd to the last step of the pay schedule.
* Graduate of Insulator Apprentice Program; OR
* Equivalent training and experience AND must pass Company Job Performance Test.
