Field/Service Technician, Installation Technician, General Labor, Telecoms Engineering
Fiber splicing is a precision craft, and we treat it like one. Richesin Engineering deploys fiber in some of the most remote and logistically complex environments you'll encounter — remote Alaska communities, rural Oregon broadband buildouts, Hawaiian utility corridors. If you're certified and serious about your work, this is a role where your skills actually matter.
You'll be responsible for fusion splicing on both aerial and underground infrastructure, performing OTDR testing, documenting splice results, and working with project teams to ensure quality on every span. Two or more years of experience and relevant certifications are required — this isn't an entry-level position.
Travel is part of the job. You'll be on project sites across Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii. We make the logistics work. We'll handle your accommodations, per diem, and travel. What we need from you is the technical skill and the work ethic to get it done right, the first time.
What You'll Do- Perform precision fusion splicing on single-mode and multimode fiber
- Conduct OTDR testing and interpret results to verify splice quality
- Complete aerial and underground splicing in variable field conditions
- Document splice records, loss measurements, and test results accurately
- Identify and repair fiber faults and damage
- Coordinate with project managers and field crews on splice scheduling
- Maintain and care for splicing equipment (fusion splicers, OTDRs, etc.)
- Follow all safety protocols for aerial, underground, and confined-space work
- 2+ years of certified fusion splicing experience
- Experience with both aerial and underground fiber installations
- Familiarity with fiber color coding, buffer tube identification, and splice documentation
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively (project-based)
- Physical ability to work in outdoor, confined, and elevated environments
- Relevant fiber certifications (FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) strongly preferred
You will spend a lot of time in a van, in a hole, or on a ladder in the rain. We will buy you excellent coffee. If your idea of a good day involves precision tools, colorful fiber tubes, and zero customer interaction, this might genuinely be the job for you.
What We Offer- Competitive pay commensurate with experience
- Meaningful work on projects that matter — real infrastructure, real communities
- Travel opportunities across Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and beyond
- A tight-knit team that trusts you to do your job well
- Room to grow as the company grows
- The satisfaction of working in places most companies won't go
