Social Worker III (Kids First), SR-20, Kapolei, Oahu. Salary rate effective 07/01/2026.
Role OverviewThis position provides professional social work, crisis intervention, counseling, referral, and program support services for the Kids First program, which promotes positive co-parenting relationships and effective communication among families involved in divorce and paternity custody cases.
Responsibilities- Serve as primary point of contact for parents.
- Assess family needs and crisis situations.
- Provide guidance on divorce-related issues, parenting concerns, and available community resources.
- Determine appropriateness of program participation and make referrals to specialized services when needed.
- Evaluate requests for program exemptions and make recommendations to the court.
- Oversee children’s program sessions.
- Provide consultation and direction to volunteer facilitators.
- Intervene in emotionally charged or disruptive situations to ensure participant safety and program effectiveness.
- Recruit, screen, train, and evaluate volunteer facilitators.
- Collaborate with service providers and community partners.
- Disseminate program information to court personnel, attorneys, and the public.
- Support program development and evaluation efforts.
- Ensure meaningful access to services for individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency through coordination of translation and interpreter services.
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree that includes a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in courses such as social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or other related social sciences.
Specialized ExperienceOne and one-half (1-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional social work experience that includes:
- Utilizing a variety of social work skills and exercising professional judgment in assisting individuals and families with identifying problems, evaluating situations, and considering resources and alternative courses of action.
- Conducting assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, working cooperatively with other professionals and agencies in an interdisciplinary team, and evaluating client progress.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker II or six (6) months of experience.
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker III or one and one-half (1-1/2) years of experience.
- Ph.D. degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker IV or two and one-half (2-1/2) years of experience.
- Providing supportive services to professional social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, housing managers, or other professional workers.
- Determining eligibility of applicants for public welfare benefits such as medical assistance or food stamps.
- Providing vocational, educational, psychological, or pastoral counseling.
- Providing occupational or physical therapeutic services.
- Peace Corps or VISTA work not requiring professional social work knowledge or performed without competent supervision.
- Relocating clients displaced by urban renewal or related reasons.
- Trainee-level social work experience unless performed under competent professional supervision.
Applicants must possess a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
