Job Summary:
Operates a passenger bus with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 lbs. to 32,000 lbs. transporting military and civilian personnel on military installations and public roads.
- Drive assigned passenger bus on scheduled and special trips, ensuring timely arrival and adherence to routes and speed limits.
- Navigate the vehicle around sharp corners, narrow streets, and varying traffic conditions.
- Control loading and unloading of passengers, enforce capacity limits, and ensure only authorized passengers are transported.
- Complete trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records, and fill out accident reports if needed.
- Occasionally operate other eligible vehicles when required by workload.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspection reports and maintain assigned vehicle’s preventive maintenance schedule.
- Manage own change fund and prepare daily sales person’s cash report.
- Secure the vehicle in designated areas at end of day.
- Observe safety and traffic regulations, exercise good manners, courtesy, and assist customers as needed.
- Allow for periodic spot checks, preventive maintenance verifications, and compliance reviews.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Moderate physical effort is required to turn large vehicles and operate additional controls. Handling objects weighing up to 40 lbs., and occasionally heavier with assistance, is also needed.
Working ConditionsWork is conducted outdoors and may involve exposure to adverse weather during emergency repairs and vehicle inspections. Drivers may be exposed to cuts, bruises, broken bones, or serious accidents while traveling in all traffic conditions.
Job Requirements- Valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Class B endorsement for heavy straight vehicles or large buses (Class A for tractor‑trailers also acceptable).
- P endorsement on CDL, permitting operation of a passenger‑carrying vehicle.
- Meeting Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and medical requirements.
- Mandatory pre‑employment drug screening and successful completion of a drug test.
- Retention of drug‑testing status for random testing; results submitted to the employing activity command.
One year of experience operating a large van or passenger vehicle.
Education and SubstitutionOne year of high‑school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience; a high school diploma or GED may substitute for one year of general experience.
Specialized ExperienceThree years of experience operating a large bus or van passenger vehicle weighing between 26,000 lbs. and 32,000 lbs.; possession of the required CDL, Class B or A endorsement, and P endorsement.
