Compensation: 50-55/hr with the possibility of a transition to a Permanent Position
'm partnering with an established construction organization in Katy, Texas that is seeking an experienced Interim Accounting Manager to support a critical accounting cleanup and process improvement initiative. The organization is looking for a highly technical, hands‑on accounting professional who can step into a complex environment, untangle historical accounting issues, strengthen processes, and bring structure to key accounting functions. This individual will serve as a trusted partner to the Controller, helping create clarity and accountability while establishing sustainable processes for the future.
WhatYou'll Own as the Senior Accounting Consultant:
- You'll serve as a senior technical resource, leading several high-priority initiatives, including:
Complex balance sheet reconciliations and account tie‑outs - Reconciliation of unbilled retainage and Work‑in‑Process (WIP) schedules to the General Ledger
- Research, analysis, and resolution of historical accounting discrepancies
- Preparation and posting of adjusting journal entries
- Accounts Payable process assessment and end‑to‑end workflow redesign Identification and remediation of internal control gaps and process inefficiencies
- Resolution of aged vendor statement discrepancies and AP backlog issues
- Development of supporting schedules and documentation for financial reviews and third‑party field examinations
- Documentation and formalization of remediated accounting processes and procedures
- Cross‑functional collaboration with accounting, purchasing, and operational teams to implement sustainable solutions
- This role combines deep technical accounting expertise with process improvement and operational transformation responsibilities.
- Takes ownership without requiring extensive direction
- Can quickly assess ambiguous situations and determine a path forward
- Enjoys digging into complex reconciliations and historical accounting issues
- Has a forensic mindset and naturally asks, "Why doesn't this tie?"
- Can tactfully implement new processes and gain buy‑in across departments
- Thrives in environments that require curiosity, critical thinking, and problem‑solving
- Brings structure and organization where documentation and processes are lacking
- Will quickly become a trusted technical partner, helping the organization move from reactive cleanup to a more controlled, scalable accounting environment.
- Reconcile and validate critical balance sheet accounts Improve visibility into key accounting balances and supporting schedules
- Eliminate significant AP process inefficiencies and backlogs
- Strengthen documentation and internal controls
- Establish repeatable workflows and policies that support long‑term success
- Position the accounting team to move forward with greater confidence and accuracy

- Current Senior Accountants or Accounting Managers with strong technical accounting experience
- Senior Accountants who have led complex reconciliations and process improvement initiatives
- Accounting professionals who enjoy project‑based work and solving complex accounting problems
- Strong Senior Accountants that are in between roles and open to a potential temp‑to‑hire arrangement
- Construction accounting professionals
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Senior Accountant and/or Accounting Manager‑level experience
- Strong background in balance sheet reconciliations and technical accounting
- Construction accounting experience, including:
- Work‑in‑Process (WIP) Retainage accounting
- Percentage‑of‑completion accounting
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to manipulate large data sets
- Experience working within legacy ERP environments;
Foundation software experience is preferred - Proven success leading process improvement and operational re‑engineering initiatives
- 3–4 month contract engagement with the possibility to convert to permanent
- Potential for flexibility based on project completion and business needs
- August ~3rd Start
- Location Katy, TX (This is an on‑site engagement.) The organization values collaboration and believes this individual will be most successful by working closely with key stakeholders and operational teams throughout the project.
