Library Clerk II
Serves as first point of service for patrons entering the building or calling the library for assistance, referring to other departments as necessary. May encounter irate patrons or handle emergency situations. Assists with training and supervision of part‑time library clerks. Serves as in‑charge staff in absence of Clerk III. Performs circulation functions including charges and discharges of library materials using an integrated library system, interlibrary loans, patron holds, and partnership library reserves.
Routinely uses software applications, shelving classifications, email, spreadsheets and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Maintains patron data, issues library cards, follows confidentiality policy, and assists patrons with overdue fines and lost materials by handling cash, credit cards, and other payment methods. Reconciles accounts, prepares deposits and reports, routes materials to other branches, and loads/unloads bins of library materials weighing up to 25lb.
Receives, sorts, and processes new and donated delivery items, shelves books, and prepares items for the hold shelf. Receives and checks in new periodicals, journals and newspapers, and weeds older or damaged materials.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, staff development days, committee meetings, and training sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Creates records and changes holdings using an automated system
- Processes mail for the library system
- Performs database maintenance
- High school diploma or GED; some college preferred
- Two years of job‑related experience
- Strong computer skills; proficiency with Internet, email and Microsoft Office products
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse public and staff
- Aptitude for learning library software applications and shelving classifications
- Ability to interpret policy, problem‑solve, and manage frequent interruptions
- Position requires evening and weekend hours
Starting salary range: $15.30 – $18.25 per hour based on qualifications.
