Job Purpose

The Purchase Risk Manager identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks in procurement, overseeing buying processes, supplier vetting, vendor management, and insurance programs to balance cost, quality, and risk, ensuring compliance and protecting the organization from financial and operational harm.

Key Duties
  • Strategy & Planning
    • Develop procurement policies, assess purchasing needs, forecast demand, and implement cost‑saving strategies.
    • Ensure that spending not covered by strategy is well managed via market analysis, supplier negotiation and other activities.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of purchase‑to‑pay and strategic sourcing processes, procedures, and systems in full compliance with internal control requirements.
    • Understand operations needs and align goals with company goals, business drivers, and functional goals.
    • Manage, revise, and implement purchasing processes and projects to increase company efficiency and minimize costs by actively challenging vendor pricing, initiating cost‑saving projects, assessing vendor capabilities, and developing alternate sources of supply.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management
    • Identify, evaluate, negotiate with, and manage relationships with suppliers and vendors, including contract approvals and performance monitoring.
    • Develop sourcing strategies; identify and recommend potential suppliers; negotiate terms and conditions for purchases; deliver company objectives.
    • Manage the full purchasing cycle, including competitive bidding (RFPs, RFQs), supplier selection, contract negotiation, and purchase order issuance.
    • Develop and maintain good business relationships with suppliers, evaluate performance on an ongoing basis, and implement corrective actions to ensure quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
    • Maintain the highest ethical standards and assure fair and equitable treatment of all suppliers.
  • Inventory & Operations
    • Oversee inventory levels, manage storage, and ensure timely procurement of materials, parts, and supplies.
    • Coordinate and oversee day‑to‑day purchasing activity for the department, encompassing and troubleshooting issues related to supply, supplier, or personnel.
    • Work as a member, leader, or facilitator of cross‑functional teams or task forces to progress the business.
  • Risk & Compliance
    • Mitigate supply‑chain risks, ensure ethical standards, and maintain compliance with laws and company requirements.
    • Work with Finance and assigned broker to procure appropriate property, casualty, cyber, and other insurance policies; manage claims processing and loss‑prevention programs.
    • Ensure trade compliance across departments in relation to state and federal regulations and company policy.
    • Monitor regulatory changes and update internal processes and supplier practices accordingly.
    • Maintain focus on value‑added activities, identify and implement alternative, innovative, and creative solutions to drive lowest total cost of ownership, balancing cost saving and risk mitigation.
  • Analysis & Reporting
    • Review purchase records, analyze product performance, and use data for informed decision‑making.
    • Maintain purchasing documentation and all internal systems and departmental records, including records of both current and historical purchases.
    • Hold regular review meetings with executive leadership and provide updates on the status of purchasing activity.
    • Develop and maintain budgetary control through short‑term and long‑term cost forecasting, variance analyses, and corrective actions to meet financial forecasts.
  • Training & Awareness
    • Educate staff and stakeholders on risk‑management procedures, safety protocols, and their roles in risk mitigation.
    • Coach, develop, and motivate employees through formal and informal processes including dialogues, skill gap analysis, and training to meet efficiency and KPI targets to improve departmental performance.
    • Promote a culture of proactive compliance and risk management throughout the supply chain.
    • Ensure effective, accurate, and proper channels of communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field with risk management experience.
