QualificationsCollege hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the Para Pro test
College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the Para Pro test) for Non-Title I campus
Communicate and work with students with disabilities
Maintain effective working relationships
Minimum clerical skills
Good physical and emotional condition
Work with confidential material and student records
Paraprofessional Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
CPI certification once employed

Primary PurposeClerical and student-care assistance as assigned
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Assist special education teachers in implementing instructional program for students.
- Assist in collecting data and maintaining confidential student records and charts for determining student progress.
- Assist with self-care of students including toileting, bathing, feeding, etc.
- Assist in implementing activities recommended by support and related service personnel.
- Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies for students with significant behavioral manifestations.
- Assist in implementing recommended assistive technology devices to support programming.
- Assist in carrying out all activities as described in the student’s IEP under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Assist teachers in preparing and duplicating instructional materials.
- Assist with maintaining/cleaning equipment needs for student program.
- Assist in providing non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
- Assist all students as needed in Special Ed.
- Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
- Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator, Smart board, ovens, dishwashers, microwave, washer/dryer, radio communication equipment. Adaptive equipment – Wheelchair, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, ramps, locks, electric changing table, Hoyer lift, various physical therapy equipment, assistive technology including voice output devices, Gastrointestinal tube.
Working ConditionsMaintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Moderate standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Lift moderate weight, 15 – 44 pounds and carry light weight, 15 pounds. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint;
and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards, body fluids and communicable diseases and chemical hazards. Exposure to noise.
