  • Valid Texas Business and Finance, Business Education, Marketing, or Marketing Education teaching certificate
  • Professional work experience in your licensed occupational field
  • Formal training and education
  • Relevant industry licensure, certification, or registration
  • Any combination of work experience, training and education, or industry credentials related to the subject matter he/she will be teaching

Specific certifications for this position:

  • Certification and training will be required upon employment.

The mission of this role:

Serve as a Career and Technical Education instructor in the Business, Marketing, and Finance pathway (Accounting and Financial Services, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Sales, and/or Real Estate). Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and enable them to develop competencies and skills for post‑secondary education or entry‑level positions in the industry.

success looks like for this role:
  • Present a positive role model for students; demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skill in the subject areas taught.
  • Develop long‑ and short‑range plans for the instructional program.
  • Provide planned instruction to assigned students, presenting the subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, Board policies, and aligned industry credentialing agencies.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, including classroom management strategies, and assist students in analyzing and improving their study methods and habits.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of student groups.
  • Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Engage in professional development through campus and district staff programs.
  • Cooperate with other staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Participate in ARDs and work with special education teachers to modify curriculum per the IEP guidelines.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs via a subject‑matter advisory committee and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain inventory of teaching supplies and classroom equipment, providing current inventory on request.
  • Implement technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
  • Compile and maintain records, reports, and documents required (student records, credentialing information).
  • Assume responsibility for student participation in leadership activities associated with career and technical education student organizations sanctioned by TEA and the district.
  • Enhance community and parent involvement through appropriate and effective techniques.

Equipment Used: Computer, printer, copier, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Potential leadership opportunities in this role: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).

Working Conditions

Physical demands/Environment factors: May require standing for long periods, frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Mental demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.
