- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for visual arts and level assigned.
- Knowledge of subjects assigned.
- General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Student teaching or approved internship.
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through the study and engagement in visual arts. Prepare students for successful participation in various visual arts venues, i.e. exhibits, competitions, and shows. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
What Success Looks Like for This Role- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show evidence of preparation as required by district policy.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Present positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
- Demonstrate proficient artist skills within the classroom setting.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions pertaining to art supplies (including maintaining accurate MSDS files), the kiln and HAZMAT awareness.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in the district staff development program.
- Attend professional development sessions pertaining to visual art education offered through state and/or university conferences and in-district/out-of-district workshops.
