Qualifications:
- College hours for Title I campus: 48 required or a score of 464 on the Para Pro test
- College hours: 15, high school diploma or GED (with passing score on Para Pro) for Non-Title I campus
- Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)
Primary
Purpose:
Instructional and student-care duties as assigned.
- Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
- Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
- Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
- Assist in data collection.
- Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
- Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
- Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as toileting.
- Assist in implementing the adaptive behavior protocol.
- Attend professional meetings as required.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
- Other SHARS duties as assigned.
- Provide personal care as identified in the applicable student IEPs.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment, noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
