Duty Days: 187 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: I00 (Pay based on years of experience)

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Valid Texas certificate in an appropriate area
• Ability to work effectively between the school and community
• Experience providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder
• Valid CPI certification (preferred or after employment)

• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
• Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
• Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and be accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.
• Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior, including consideration of environmental factors and manipulating antecedents and consequences.
• Administer criterion‑referenced, district, and state testing as appropriate.
• Provide ongoing communication with parents/guardians, campus staff, and special education supervisors.
• Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.
• Provide instruction using curriculum, environmental adaptations and accommodations, and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.
• Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
• Participate in required continuing professional development designed to further develop knowledge and skills.
• Physically prompt students through instruction, which may require lifting and positioning.
• Other SHARS duties as assigned.
• Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running; heavy lifting and carrying of 45 pounds and over daily; positioning of students; moving classroom or adaptive equipment; noise exposure; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
