- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Valid Texas certificate in the appropriate area
- Ability to work effectively between the school and community
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual certification required for respective positions
The mission of this role :
Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities. Communicates with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians regarding information pertinent to student needs (such as ARD paperwork, IEPs, BIPs, and general progress).
What success looks like for this role :
- Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
- Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
- Develop instructional programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of the essential knowledge and skills.
- Collaborate with regular education teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs and to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
- Administer criterion‑referenced testing.
- Stay current and apply state‑of‑the‑art educational practices.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers and administrators to oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs, including training regarding data collection and implementation of specific instructional strategies.
- Collect and maintain data related to student progress.
- Report progress on IEP goals/objectives at the conclusion of each grading period.
- Provide appropriate behavior‑management techniques for eligible students.
- Complete State Assessment requirements for eligible students.
- Communicate regularly with general education teachers and parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and concerns.
- Implement federal, state, and district guidelines regarding determining and providing supports to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
- Maintain confidential student records.
- Attend district-required and job‑specific trainings and staff development (e.g., training on Autism, content‑specific trainings, structured settings).
- Perform other SHARS duties as assigned.
- Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
Equipment Used :
Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator, and fax machine. Familiarity with wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, ramps, locks, radio communication equipment, video monitoring equipment, and technology teaching tools (e.g., SMART Board).

Workplace Operational Environment :
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, crouching, crawling, reaching, climbing, and pulling. May be required to lift or carry moderate weight (15–44 pounds). Exposure to biological hazards, noise, microwaves.
