MissionProvides special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities. Communicates with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians regarding student needs (e.g., ARD paperwork, IEPs, BIPs, and general progress).
Responsibilities- Develop and implement individual education programs for students with significant cognitive, physical, and medical needs.
- Prepare documents and assignments and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students in the Life Skills classroom or receiving homebound services.
- Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
- Develop instructional programs that enable eligible students to achieve mastery of essential knowledge and skills.
- Consult with campus staff and related services personnel (OT, PT, VI, AT) to provide an appropriate education.
- Provide appropriate behavior‑management techniques.
- Implement the LIFE Skills critical‑elements checklist for a structured environment, instructional strategies, and behavior interventions.
- Maintain student data records and charts for assessing progress.
- Administer criterion‑referenced testing to develop PLAAFP or equivalent and annual goals/objectives as indicated on the student’s IEP.
- Document skill development, mastery, and report progress.
- Provide non‑medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary.
- Complete state assessment for eligible students.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and concerns.
- Oversee the paraprofessional’s responsibilities in implementing student programs.
- Provide care related to hygiene, toileting, and nourishment.
- Other duties as assigned, including additional SHARS responsibilities and personal care tasks identified in applicable IEPs.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Valid Texas certificate in an appropriate area; ESL certification required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively between the school and community.
- CPI certification once employed.
- Supervise assigned teacher aides and student teachers.

Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds), frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non‑ambulatory students, and be exposed to biological and chemical hazards.
