Teacher – 2nd Grade/Math
Location: Katy Elementary, Katy, Texas
Job DescriptionReports to: Principal
Duty Days: 187
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: I00 – Pay Based on Years of Experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- ESL certification required for K‑5 RLA or self‑contained special education or general education classroom assignments; preferred for Math, Science, Social Studies assignments
- Student teaching or approved internship
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; physically able to monitor discipline and move about the room to facilitate instruction
- Physically able to perform formative assessments and engage in small and large group instruction

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and to help students develop competencies and skills for future success.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Strategies
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and demonstrate preparation using the district’s automated curriculum.
- Prepare lessons with accommodations and differentiation for diverse learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Collaborate with staff on planning, instructional goals and best practices per district requirements.
- Design or adapt learning experiences incorporating digital tools to promote student learning and creativity.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Student Growth and Development
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, assessment, activities, materials, and technology reflecting accommodations for individual student needs.
- Modify curricula with special education teachers per IEP guidelines.
- Help students analyze and improve study habits.
- Monitor student achievement through formal and informal assessment to inform instructional delivery.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular and outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a learning environment conducive to KISD students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage behavior and administer discipline in line with Board policies, administrative regulations, and the Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct handbook and IEPs.
- Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers via conferences.
- Use clear, accurate communication skills.
- Model professionalism, ethics, and responsibility, aligning with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
- Articulate and support campus and district mission and goals to community members.
- Initiate activities meeting district and community needs.
- Engage parents and community effectively.
Professional Growth and Development
- Implement new learning from professional development aligned with teaching assignment and district goals.
- Stay informed of state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Maintain required reports, records, and documentation.
- Participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as needed.
