Position: Teacher - SPED - Autism (YCAP)

Starting Date: Jul 31, 2026

Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Duty Days: 187 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: I00 (Pay Based on Years of Experience)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Valid Texas certificate in the appropriate area
  • Ability to work effectively between the school and community
  • Experience providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder
  • Valid CPI certification (preferred or obtained after employment)
Responsibilities
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
  • Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  • Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and be accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.
  • Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior, including consideration of environmental factors, and manipulating antecedents and consequences.
  • Administer criterion-referenced, district, and state testing as appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents/guardians, campus staff, and special education supervisors.
  • Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.
  • Provide instruction using curriculum, environmental adaptations, accommodations, and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.
  • Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
  • Participate in required continuing professional development designed to further develop knowledge and skills.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction, which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Perform other SHARS duties as assigned.
  • Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
Equipment Used

Personal computer, copier, printer and fax machine, motor lab equipment, adaptive equipment, voice output devices, playground equipment.

Workplace Operational Environment

Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over daily); positioning of students; moving classroom or adaptive equipment; noise exposure; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students; may be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
