Primary PurposeWork with students to implement BIP/IEP. Provide intervention, consultation, and training to general education and special education staff in meeting the educational needs of students with emotional and/or behavioral issues and social skills deficits.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in related field;
Special Education Certification Required. - Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Ability to work with school staff and parents; experience working with students with emotional/behavioural problems; knowledge of state and federal special education laws; excellent written and communication skills. - Experience: Three years working with students with emotional and/or behavioral issues.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of behavioral strategies and the collection of data in the evaluation of student progress.
- Collaborate with campus staff and other behaviour staff to provide ongoing training for special education and general education staff in effective behaviour‑management strategies and positive behaviour supports.
- Model effective social skills and behavioural strategies or conduct demonstration lessons for specific students as specified in individual IEPs and/or intervention plans.
- Promote the inclusion of students with behaviour problems through providing assistance with district curriculum and supplemental instructional materials for special education in the general education setting.
- Assist teachers in programming for students with emotional disturbance and moderate to severe behavioural problems.
- Assist in developing documents designed to maintain and document student progress.
- Attend staffing and ARDs when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of individual Behaviour Intervention Plans.
- Coordinate with evaluation staff in planning and programming for students.
- Mentor new teachers responsible for educating students with emotional disturbance and moderate to severe behavioural problems in the understanding of teaching strategies and behaviour programs/interventions.
- Plan campus Non‑Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention training.
- Provide individual or group training to parents on effective behaviour‑management strategies and data collection as specified in individual IEPs.
Computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, and other emerging technologies. Instructional and productivity software as required.
Working ConditionsAbility to see, hear, talk, stand, sit, walk, stoop, push and pull. Maintain emotional control under stress. Varied stressful interpersonal situations and crisis management. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate lifting and carrying of 15‑44 pounds. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions.
