Autism
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area
- Ability to work effectively between the school and community
- Experience in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder
- Valid CPI certification (Preferred or after employment)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
- Complete local, state, and federal paperwork required for program participation.
- Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and be accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.
- Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior, including consideration of environmental factors, and manipulating antecedents and consequences.
- Administer criterion‑referenced district and state testing as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing communication with parents/guardians, campus staff, and special education supervisors.
- Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.
- Provide instruction using curriculum, environmental adaptations, accommodations, and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.
- Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
- Participate in required continuing professional development to further develop knowledge and skills.
- Physically prompt students through instruction, which may require lifting and positioning.
- Other SHARS duties as assigned.
- Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds or more daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment, noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
