Act in lieu of the regular classroom teacher and perform the duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.
What success looks like for this role- Complete the duties and tasks of the absent teacher.
- Prevent students from leaving the room unless it is absolutely necessary.
- Check the class roll at the time and in the manner designated by the campus.
- Contact the school nurse if a student needs medical attention. Only authorized district employees may administer medication.
- Notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day prior to leaving the campus.
- Assume the same responsibilities as a regular classroom teacher for students, equipment, and other assigned materials.
- Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher as closely as practical and maintain the regular routine of the class.
- Leave a summary of work covered in each class and other information pertinent to the teacher.
- Manage classroom behavior to maintain an environment conducive to good learning.
- Notify an administrator if additional assistance is needed.
- Abide by the Substitute Teacher handbook.
- Be flexible and willing to cover a different assignment if the campus needs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines of the campus.
- Report on time, report for any assigned duty, work through the end of stated sub hours.
Physical demands/Environmental factors: may require standing for long periods of time; frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Mental demands – ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
