Program Specialist

The Program Specialist will provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of services to staff who support emergent bilingual students. This individual will also provide training to ensure that course content is comprehensible and accessible.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work directly with teachers of emergent bilingual students to provide supplemental support, integrating language and content objectives in all instructional settings.

Provide leadership in the instructional planning for emergent bilingual students.

Model instructional strategies and lessons for teachers of emergent bilingual students.

Develop curriculum across PK-5 Spanish literacy, biliteracy, and Spanish content areas.

Design, refine and sustain high-quality instructional materials.

Develop comprehensive PK-5 assessments in Spanish that support Spanish literacy, biliteracy development, and content-area learning across all subjects.

Analyze bilingual data to enhance emergent bilingual student performance.

Plan, facilitate, present, and evaluate professional development for staff supporting emergent bilingual students.

Monitor and assist with extended day campus programs to ensure successful implementation.

Support the planning and preparation for the Katy Summer Program for emergent bilingual students.

Compile and evaluate pre-/post-assessment data for summer school programs that support emergent bilingual students.

Evaluate, identify, and coordinate the implementation of supplemental emergent bilingual resources.

Monitor and provide assistance to teachers during summer school.

Plan, coordinate and manage summer school programs.

Assist with the coordination and implementation of extended day/year programs.

Monitor extended day/year campus programs and report academic results.

Support parent, family, and community engagement.

Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Interactive whiteboard, computer, printer, copier, document camera, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the teaching assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.

Working Conditions:

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; participate in regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations, and moderate lifting and carrying.
