Reports To: Instructional Officer for ESCE, LIFE Skills, and TIP

Duty Days: 187 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: I00 (Pay Based on Years of Experience - Teacher Hiring Schedule)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Master’s degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Valid Texas certificate appropriate for educating preschool children with disabilities
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an ECSE teacher
  • Ability to work with school and community populations
Mission of this role

Provides consultation to and training for special education teachers within the preschool program for children with disabilities. Is available to provide demonstration teaching and to assist regular classroom teachers in acquiring the skills necessary for the successful integration of students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers. Provides direct instruction to students with disabilities who are in crisis situations and/or whose educational progress has not been consistent with IEP goals.

Assists with creating ECSE classroom schedules.

Success looks like
  • Model effective teaching strategies.
  • Observe specific students in various settings to make recommendations for individual IEP and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Assist teachers responsible for educating students with disabilities in setting up a structured classroom environment, including student schedules.
  • Mentor new teachers responsible for educating students with moderate to severe disabilities in developing structured teaching strategies and delivering appropriate academic curriculum. Provide written feedback to teachers, diagnostic specialists, and campus administrators.
  • Assist in the development of instructional activities, curriculum planning/writing, and staff development.
  • Conduct demonstration lessons for campus-level staff and for purposes of informal evaluation of students.
  • Attend staffings and ARDs when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.
  • Assist teachers and parents in data collection and in the evaluation of student progress.
  • Promote inclusion of students with disabilities with those students who do not have disabilities.
  • Assist in ordering a standard list of materials for new and established classes.
  • Assist in selecting and ordering instructional materials and in determining appropriate strategies for using these materials in the classroom (including adaptive/assistive technology).
  • Attend content or program-specific meetings when requested.
  • Assist campus staff in developing schedules for effective & efficient use of special education personnel.
  • Assist with coordination of implementation of programs & curriculum.
  • Meet with Instructional Officer and Program Specialist regularly to create program consistency across the district.
  • Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local requirements necessary for program compliance.
  • Other SHARS duties as assigned.
  • Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license.
