Supplier Quality Engineer
The Supplier Quality Engineer serves as a key liaison between Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Procurement/Sourcing to develop and qualify a robust supplier base for mechanical and electrical equipment. This role focuses on supplier identification, capability assessment audits, driving quality standards, and introducing new technologies for gas turbine components, electrical equipment, heat exchangers, cast and machined components, piping, and other rotating equipment-related products.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact between Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Procurement/Sourcing for all supplier quality-related activities.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for mechanical and electrical equipment, including gas turbine components, electrical equipment, heat exchangers, cast and machined components, and piping.
- Perform supplier capability assessment audits to determine technical competence, quality systems maturity, and ability to meet project requirements.
- Lead supplier qualification activities, including product and process qualification, to ensure a global, quality-assured, and cost-effective supply base.
- Drive implementation of quality standards and best practices across the supplier network to support manufacturing and advanced technologies.
- Use structured root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone diagrams to investigate and resolve supplier-related quality issues.
- Interpret engineering drawings and collaborate closely with design engineering teams to ensure supplier understanding and compliance with specifications.
- Qualify suppliers for casting, machining, coating, welding, pipe fitting and joining, electrical systems, and advanced manufacturing processes.
- Lead technical supplier development initiatives to improve supplier performance, process capability, and product quality.
- Manage and lead projects involving virtual, multi-functional teams in an international environment to achieve supplier quality and cost objectives.
- Coordinate and participate in cross-functional reviews with engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing to align supplier capabilities with business needs.
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to supplier audits, qualifications, corrective actions, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders and suppliers, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Travel domestically and internationally to supplier locations to conduct audits, qualifications, and development activities as required.
Essential
Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in supplier quality management in a manufacturing environment.
- Professional experience in manufacturing engineering or supplier quality engineering, including qualifying suppliers for casting, machining, coating, welding, pipe fitting/joining, electrical systems, and advanced manufacturing processes.
- Strong experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, and quality assurance within industrial or electrical engineering contexts.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis tools and methodologies, including 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone diagrams.
- Expertise in interpreting engineering drawings and collaborating with design engineering teams to translate requirements into supplier deliverables.
- Experience performing supplier qualification, product and process qualification, and technical supplier development for a global supply base.
- Proven ability to lead projects and manage virtual multi-functional teams in an international environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 35–50% domestically and internationally for supplier audits, qualifications, and development activities.
- Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English for effective communication with global stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
