POSITION PURPOSEPerform numerous functions including processing deposits, withdrawals, posting to general ledger accounts, cashing negotiable items, processing loan payments, savings bonds, and cashier’s checks while promoting the bank’s products and services and providing excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES- Represents the bank in a courteous and professional manner.
- Receives and processes deposits.
- Receives and processes loan payments.
- Cashes checks and other negotiable instruments for clients.
- Examines documents for endorsements and negotiability.
- Processes transfers between accounts.
- Sells traveler’s checks, official checks, and money orders.
- Processes credit card cash advances.
- Verifies and balances cash daily.
- Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
- Offers other bank products to meet customer needs and strengthen the relationship.
- Maintains no more than one proof error within a 30‑day period.
- Follows teller procedures consistently and adheres to compliance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintains privacy of customer information.
- Operates online teller terminal.
- Cross‑sells bank products and services.
- Assists area personnel as required and attends required meetings and training.
- Performs night drop and related clerical duties as assigned.
- Ensures work areas are clean, secure, and well maintained.
- Teller functions are performed efficiently, effectively, and accurately per established policies, standards, and security procedures.
- Cash is balanced and any discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Good business relationships exist with clients; client problems and inquiries are resolved courteously and promptly.
- Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and management; assistance is provided to other tellers and staff as needed.
- Required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely.
- Consistently strives to develop new client relationships and strengthen existing ones by identifying opportunities to sell bank products and services.
- The bank’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
Education/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent.
Required Knowledge: Understanding of bank operations preferred.
Experience
Required:
At least one year of related experience/cash handling. Previous teller experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Good communication skills; professional appearance, dress, and attitude; good math skills; good typing skills; ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment, including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money‑counting machines, and telephone.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS- Talking:
Frequently convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly. - Average hearing:
Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. - Finger dexterity:
Use primarily fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together. - Repetitive motion:
Frequent and regular movements using wrists, hands, and/or fingers. - Average visual abilities:
Average visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery. - Physical strength:
Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- Reasoning ability:
Apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables. - Mathematics ability:
Perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs. - Language ability:
Use passive vocabulary of 5,000–6,000 words; read slowly and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation; write complex sentences using proper punctuation and adjectives/adverbs; communicate in complex sentences using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
Shift schedule:
Monday – Friday 1:15 PM – 6:15 PM;
Saturday 7:45 AM – 12:15 PM.
