About the Role
UTHealth Houston's Pediatric Clinic in Katy is expanding. We are looking for a Certified Diabetes Educator to provide outpatient and inpatient education on lifestyle, nutrition, medication, physical activity, and glucose testing. The role supports patients across clinic, phone, and community, provides training to staff, assists with research, and manages diabetes care in compliance with ADA guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Educate patients on blood glucose monitoring, management, insulin administration, safety guidelines, and use of pumps and CGM systems.
- Assist patients in obtaining diabetic supplies.
- Refer patients to community resources.
- Manage diabetic patients in clinic and via phone.
- Ensure program compliance with American Diabetes Association guidelines.
- Provide case management under physicians’ supervision.
- Deliver diabetes training to clinical staff.
- Assist with research projects including data collection and patient recruitment.
- Communicate daily with patients and families reviewing blood sugar reports.
- Work with schools that have diabetic patients regarding diabetes management.
- Refill insulin and diabetic supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) by Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Licensed Dietitian by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
- Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) by Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or in Food & Nutrition Sciences or related field.
- Three years of experience; equivalent education may substitute.
- Exerts up to 50 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects.
Location:
UT Physicians Pediatrics Multispecialty Clinic, Katy, TX 77494, 23920 Katy Freeway.
Schedule:
Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm.
