Surgical Technologist II

In this position, you will handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure,assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in anage-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).

• Performs patient care related duties.
• Prepares andassistswith the preparation of the operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure asevidencedby the following but not limitedtoknowledge of surgical pathology asrelated to the planned surgical intervention; knowledge of allergies (awareness ofhigh-riskgroups for latex allergy);knowledge and preparation of special equipment i.e., implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preference,and medications.
• Applies knowledge of surgical procedure byanticipatingthe surgeon's needs, having supplies opened or available in a cost-effective manner asobservedby the circulating nurse/nurse manager.
  
  Seeks the circulating nurse'sassistanceand references the preference card when unable to decide about opening versus readily available.
• Attends andparticipatesinin-service sand other continuing education opportunities tomaintainprofessional development.
• Maintainscorrectcount of sponges, needles, and instruments according to the established policy and procedure 100% ofthe time asobservedby the circulating nurse.
• Assistsin the care and labeling of specimens 100% of the time asobservedby the circulating nurse.
• Acknowledges the importance of patient safety byparticipatingin the proper handling of medications within the sterilefield.
• Prepares O.R. equipment and supplies while performing patient care-related duties in anage-appropriate manner.
• Demonstrates effective time management skills.
• Cares for one or more of the following agegroups routinely:
  Neonates, Infants, Toddler,Preschool Age, School Age, Adolescent, and Adult.

• Required Educational program completion for surgicaltechnologists which may include operating room/surgical training completed in the army, navy, airforce, marine corps, or coast guard of the United Statesor in the United States Public Health Service
• Required CST-SUR
  - Cert-Cert Surgical TECH by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting andTSC-NCCT
  - Cert-TECH Surgery
  - Certified NCCT by the National Center for Competency Testing
• Required2years' experience as a surgical technologist and experience in two or more surgical specialties
