Permit Supervisor

The City of Katy is looking for a confident, service-minded leader to guide our Permit Office team.

As our community continues to grow, so does the importance of a permitting process that is responsive, and customer-focused.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced public service environment, leads with professionalism, and understands how to balance operational efficiency with excellent customer care.

You'll oversee the daily operations of the Permit Office, supporting the team responsible for issuing permits, coordinating inspections, and guiding customers through the development process. You'll serve as a resource for staff, contractors, and residents - helping ensure compliance with building codes while promoting clear communication and problem-solving.

Beyond managing processes, you'll lead people:

• Coaching and developing Permit Technicians and Clerks
• Supporting staff through complex or sensitive customer interactions
• Encouraging accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
• Helping refine workflows to enhance service delivery

We're seeking a leader who brings:

• Experience in permit processing or municipal development services
• Working knowledge of International Building Codes and local ordinances
• The ability to read and interpret construction documents
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• A steady, solutions-oriented approach to leadership

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma (or equivalent), three years of experience as a Permit Technician or in a similar role with supervisory responsibilities (or equivalent combination of education and experience), and Permit Technician Certification.
