Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient Acute Care

Registered Nurse Med/Surg

We are searching for a Registered Nurse Med/Surg at our West Campus – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting.

At West Campus, part of Texas Children's, we take pride in serving our community with a small-town feel backed by the resources of a larger organization. Our acute care units, 3 West and 5 West, cater to a diverse range of diagnoses requiring inpatient care. These include respiratory conditions, diabetes management (both new and established patients), pre-op and post-op medical and surgical care, orthopedic cases, neurological conditions, gastrointestinal and genitourinary issues, as well as hematology and oncology patients.

We maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, and sometimes 1:3, ensuring quality care and attention for our patients. Come join our team!

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required

• Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification are required

• One (1) year of professional nursing experience

• The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills

• Demonstrate good time and resource management skills

• Demonstrate flexibility

• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills

• Operate unit specific equipment

• Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards

Responsibilities:

• Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age – appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.

• Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status

• Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.

• Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record

• Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate

• Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.

• Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.

• Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.

• Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

• Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
