JOB TITLE:

Lab Technician II COMPANY/DEPARTMENT: SINOPEC-UOP Joint Research Center (SINOPEC Employee)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Sinopec UOP Joint Research Center (JRC) Operations team has an opening for an Lab Technician II located in Katy, Texas. The primary responsibility of this position is to support JRC scientists and engineers in the research and development of new petrochemical processes using our pilot plant, microreactor, and laboratory capabilities. The role will involve a combination of catalyst synthesis and characterization, as well as catalyst testing.

The successful candidate should have a basic understanding of chemistry and/or engineering principles and possess strong mechanical aptitude. Practical knowledge of standard batch and continuous process testing equipment, good communication skills, attention to detail, and an interest in working in an R&D environment are also highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Always maintain a safe and efficient work area.
  • Follow written and oral experimental procedures and objectives.
  • Perform routine hands-on lab work including; equipment handling, chemical handling, catalyst preparation, characterization and testing.
  • Report daily lab results and progress results to the team, as required.
  • Generate and document experimental data and calculations.
  • Follow established procedures and recommend changes in procedures and equipment to improve efficiency and data quality (including preparation of Job Safety Analyses, Standard Operating Procedures, and HS&E documentation).
  • Handle and safely dispose of experimental materials.
  • Repair, calibrate, and provide general maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Collect data, documents test results, and assist in preparing reports or other documentation.
  • Maintain files and documentation related to test equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory supplies and small equipment for lab to ensure items are available .
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Experience with catalyst preparation or testing and handling lab equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while in the lab.
  • Good math and chemistry skills to be successful in this position.
  • Must have prior experience and understanding of working safely with chemicals in a lab environment.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly when running various tests.
  • Must be able to collaborate with scientists professionally and work cohesively with others at all levels.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to document and record results clearly and accurately with minimal to no errors.
  • Thorough understanding of laboratory safety procedures.
  • Be able to use a variety of computer software programs.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, LICENSES and

EXPERIENCE:
  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Science (from an Accredited School).
  • Must have a Texas Driver’s License, or ability to obtain one.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
