Construction Purchasing Specialist

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business or relevant field of study preferred.

• 5+ years’ experience working in a purchasing or negotiating position.
• Experience in forecasting, strategic planning, and inventory management preferred.

• Analytical with strong problem‑solving abilities and creative resolution skills.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levels.
• Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent Microsoft Office experience including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes.

Verify accuracy of construction orders for individual store projects (fixtures, millwork, equipment, office furniture, and other construction related items) and develop processes and procedures to simplify orders and uphold delivery schedules.

Create, report on, and implement cost savings initiatives; identify order overages for store projects by implementing a clear process.

Contact and manage recyclers/buyers/liquidators for bulk used fixtures and sell or recycle fixtures for ASO return profit.

Partner with Space Planning/Plan-O-Grams to create a program that ensures fixture orders are based on actual POG counts rather than bulk ordering.

Review CAD plans to place accurate office furniture orders with the proper vendor and ensure on‑time delivery and installation.

Manage on‑hand store counts and adjust backstock fixture numbers for current and future seasonal changes upon project completion.

Participate in store project walks to identify items that may need to be ordered; travel to document that fixture procedure implementations are being followed.

Secure diagrams on how to install/build specialty fixtures and create/maintain an assembly book.

Partner with store support merchandise team and construction team to assist in the execution of the store project and manage completion of punch list items.

Manage vendors for tracking of deliveries and expediting where applicable; develop and manage close business relationships with key stakeholders.

Resolve issues such as backorders, short shipments, and late shipments; communicate order information and changes that impact stores and field representatives.

Manage expenditures and unnecessary costs; source and select vendors, place orders, verify product quality, and ensure on‑time deliveries.

Monitor project execution to ensure that key milestones and financial budgets are met; escalates issues as required.

Interface and meet with vendors, store managers, construction and fixture set‑up/merchandise project managers, and others as necessary.

Manage vendor relations through all project phases: production, logistics, implementation, and project closeouts for custom and non‑custom fixtures and equipment.

• Regular attendance required.
• Up to 5% travel, as needed.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
