About the RoleThe City of Katy is looking for a dependable and hardworking Water Utility Worker to help maintain and support the City's water system. This role is hands‑on and essential to keeping water services running safely and efficiently for the community. If you enjoy working outdoors, solving problems, and being part of a team that makes a real impact, this could be a great fit.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on water mains and service lines
- Flush, repair, and replace fire hydrants to ensure proper operation
- Rebuild and repair water meters and assist with meter readings for billing
- Respond to service calls, including checking for leaks and assisting customers
- Turn water services on and off for new and closing accounts
- Clean and maintain groundwater storage tanks and prepare for inspections
- Restore concrete, sidewalks, and asphalt following water line repairs
- Support the team during emergencies and critical events to maintain City services
- Take on additional duties as needed to support water system operations
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic mechanical experience is helpful, but not required
- Willingness to learn, work hard, and be part of a team
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
- Ability to provide good customer service and interact professionally with residents
Valid Texas driver's license required;
Class B CDL may be required. Groundwater Treatment Plant Operator Class D license is a plus. This is a physically demanding role requiring lifting, outdoor work, and exposure to various weather and environmental conditions. Designated as Essential Critical Infrastructure personnel.

Minimum QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; and some basic mechanical experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Department policies and procedures.
- City codes and ordinances.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Providing quality customer service.
- Valid State Driver's License required;
Class B Commercial Driver's License may be required. - Groundwater Treatment Plant Operator Class D license within 1 (one) year of employment.
This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
