Maintenance Technician

Reports To:

Utility Site Specialist

Duty Days: 261 Days

Wage/Hour Status:
Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: A05

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Texas Operator's License

TCEQ Water Condition Technician License or obtain within six months of hire date

Knowledge of water softener systems, motors, pumps at wastewater and water treatment plants

Knowledge of hazard communications (preferred)

Knowledge of water chemistry and water quality testing procedures

Ability to maintain accurate records using computerized maintenance management system

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments

Strong customer service and communication skills

Physically able to lift 50 pounds

Ability to comprehend English (written and oral)

Primary

Purpose:

Provide maintenance, repair and preventative service for water softener systems throughout the district to ensure the safe and efficient operation of building water treatment equipment. Assist the Utility Site Specialist with the operation monitoring and maintenance of district utility systems while ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal rules, regulations and district standards.

Major

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair water softener systems.

2. Provide assistance to Utility Site Specialist, as needed.

3. Respond to work orders in a timely manner.

4. Assist in paperwork for storm water permits.

5. Provide monthly reports related to scheduled preventative maintenance, cleaning and sanitization.

6. Practice all safety regulations related to the trade and district safety policies.

7. Maintain required records for inspections, maintenance and repairs

8. Operate district vehicles, tools and equipment safely.

9. Maintain licenses and continuing education, as required.

10. May be required to work nights or weekends to respond to emergency situations, as needed.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Hand power tools, water well equipment, computer and water sampling kits. Crane truck and trailer.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, around fumes and toxic chemicals, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel.
