Test Technician

The Test Technician performs electrical testing and preventive maintenance on rental switch gear and related equipment to ensure it operates safely and reliably between customer uses. This role combines hands-on diagnostic work, detailed inspection, and accurate documentation while applying electrical theory and print reading skills in a field and shop environment.

• Perform acceptance testing and annual maintenance on rental switch gear and associated electrical equipment.
• Inspect rental equipment such as circuit breakers, busbars, and transformers for physical damage, corrosion, moisture, and other signs of wear between customer uses.
• Read and interpret electrical prints, schematics, and blueprints to guide testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
• Apply electrical theory to diagnose issues, verify proper operation, and ensure equipment meets performance and safety standards.
• Conduct electrical testing using specialized tools such as megohmmeters, multimeters, and relay test sets to verify insulation integrity, contact resistance, and other critical parameters.
• Perform preventive maintenance by cleaning components, lubricating moving mechanical parts, and retorquing bolted connections to manufacturer specifications.
• Test protective relays and circuit trip mechanisms to confirm equipment will safely disconnect during an electrical fault.
• Document maintenance activities by logging maintenance histories, calibration data, and test results into inventory databases to certify equipment reliability.
• Follow established procedures, safety practices, and manufacturer guidelines while working on energized and de-energized equipment.
• Travel to various client sites within a defined radius to perform on-site testing, inspections, and maintenance as needed.

• Experience with electrical testing and maintenance for switch gear rentals or similar electrical power equipment.
• Experience performing acceptance testing and annual maintenance on electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical prints, schematics, and blueprints.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory and its practical application in testing and maintenance.
• Proficiency using electrical test instruments such as megohmmeters, multimeters, and relay test sets.
• Attention to detail in inspection, testing, and documentation of equipment condition and test results.
• Ability to follow manufacturer specifications and safety procedures when performing preventive maintenance.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive to client sites within the required radius.

• Graduates from technical programs such as TSTC with a focus on electric power controls or electrical disciplines are well-suited for this role.
• Infrared inspection experience is a strong plus.
• Experience working with infrared cameras or thermography equipment is beneficial.
• Willingness to learn and develop skills through on-the-job training, including for junior-level candidates.
• Comfort working long shifts and varying start times in a field service environment.

This role is based both at the company's primary site and at various client locations within approximately a 60-mile radius. You are expected to drive your own car to client sites and will receive mileage reimbursement; as you advance after the contract period, you may have the opportunity to drive a company truck. Start times vary and can be as early as 5:00–6:00 a.m., with typical workdays running 10–12 hours from Monday through Friday.
