Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, guidance/counseling or related field
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Successful work experience in a school or social work setting
  • Proficient typing, word processing, and file maintenance skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent telephone and public relations skills
  • Flexible in work situations
  • Expertise in office machines including computer skills: word processing, database and graphics
  • Knowledgeable about Title I and McKinney-Vento laws
  • Ability to conduct staff development and community education regarding homelessness
  • Ability to organize and accurately maintain confidential student information and data

Primary

Purpose:

Serve as a parent liaison, promote quality service delivery for homeless and at-risk students; as well as provide leadership to campuses to increase program effectiveness and parental involvement. Coordinate and collaborate with district and campus personnel to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies, regulations, guidelines, and statutes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the district’s Homeless Liaison to develop and implement a data-driven plan to support identification and enrollment of students experiencing homelessness.
  • Possess and stay current with knowledge of all applicable state and/or federal statutes and guidelines governing programs for homeless students.
  • Provide technical assistance and professional development to social workers, counselors, administrators, and other staff to ensure compliance with McKinney-Vento regulations and to coordinate services for students experiencing homelessness.
  • Regularly hold staffing meetings with campus counselors and administrators to monitor student attendance and academic performance of students experiencing homelessness.
  • Develop and implement a data-driven plan to support wraparound services, academic engagement, and enrichment activities for students experiencing homelessness.
  • Address learning loss of students experiencing homelessness by coordinating dropout recovery activities, providing early academic interventions, and ongoing academic progress monitoring.
  • Address learning loss of students experiencing homelessness by coordinating summer learning program activities, providing support for dual credit programs, credit recovery and/or acceleration programs.
  • Address learning loss of students experiencing homelessness by tracking student attendance and improving student engagement.
  • Address learning loss of students experiencing homelessness by tracking student grades and credit accrual to ensure on-time promotion and graduation.
  • Address learning loss of student experiencing homelessness by providing academic and community wraparound support and assistance which could be provided in collaboration with or through community-based organizations (CBOs) (e.g., academic support, basic need referrals, trauma-informed care, mental health services, etc.)
  • Support and train campus staff on required documentation for the McKinney-Vento program.
  • Develop and provide parent training in how to assist/work with their children on academic concepts.
  • Strive to increase two-way communication with parents and students experiencing homelessness.
  • Review student transcripts and progress towards graduation to facilitate collaborative meetings with campus administrators and district.
  • Assist in the completion of the Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth program grant application and compliance reports.
