The Kaukauna Police Department is seeking individuals to serve as Substitute Crossing Guards, in the event of an absence of our regular hourly Crossing Guards. In this role, you will assist children in safely crossing roadways and intersections on their way to and from school. Crossing Guards monitor traffic conditions, identify safe gaps in traffic, and escort children across streets while clearly displaying a stop sign to ensure visibility to approaching vehicles.

This is a seasonal, substitutionary position that may take place Monday through Friday, with one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, as well as compensation for one hour of travel time each day. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact and help keep our community safe!

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must not currently be, or have been within the past 10 years, under court-ordered community supervision or probation for any offense classified as a Class B misdemeanor or higher.
  • Must not have ever been convicted of a felony or family violence offense.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication skills; must interact effectively and courteously with children, parents, school personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously, including on varied terrain such as uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 5 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
