Position Purpose
Serve as a key on-site resource on a major new construction project, proactively identifying hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with all trades and subcontractors to maintain a safe work environment during new construction activities.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific safety programs and procedures tailored to specific site requirements.
- Participate in pre-task planning, onsite safety committee, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety reviews for new work activities or design changes.
- Conduct daily/regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the construction site and document findings directly into the appropriate mobile application.
- Deliver engaging safety training and toolbox talks to craft professionals and subcontractors.
- Collaborate professionally and effectively with all trades and project management to integrate safety into daily operations and planning.
- Support subcontractor safety oversight and ensure alignment with project safety standards.
- Lead thorough incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist in emergency preparedness, response planning, and coordination with local emergency services.
- Ensure proper documentation of all forms, inspections, training, etc. in compliance with site and Bassett standards.
- Stay current with construction safety best practices, new regulations, and emerging technologies/tools relevant to the industry.
- Work additional hours as necessary to meet customer needs and business objectives.
- Support and maintain a safe and Lean work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and significant field experience).
- 2-5+ years of direct safety experience on active construction sites, preferably new commercial/industrial projects.
- In-depth working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (1926) and other applicable regulations.
- Professional certification preferred (e.g., CSP, CHST, ASP, STSC or equivalent).
- Proven ability to build trust and collaborate professionally with diverse trades, subcontractors, and site leadership in a high-energy construction environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience presenting to groups and writing clear reports/training materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with safety management software (e.g., Procore, Hammertech) is a plus.
- Physically able to navigate active construction sites daily (climb ladders, walk uneven terrain, wear PPE, etc.).
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
