Overview
Job Title: Staff Accountant I
Department: Financial Management
Immediate Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer
Job Summary: The Staff Accountant I will perform tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger and subsidiary accounts, maintain, and reconcile daily cash accounts, and manage other accounting-related duties. Prepare various accounting reports as requested.
Salary: $24.00 - $34.00 hourly non-exempt plus benefits. Pay is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities- Prepare and enter daily and monthly general ledger transactions including Credit Union investment activity.
- Prepare balance sheet and income statements daily.
- Responsible for general ledger reconciliation, analysis of financial accounts, and preparation of journal entries.
- Provide end-of-month close and produce monthly financial statements.
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts.
- Reconcile and research revenue reports, variances, special projects, payroll reports, and claims disbursements.
- Ensure that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Assist in the Credit Union's accounts payable process.
- Develop and implement processes to streamline credit union accounting procedures.
- Monitor fixed-asset management.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly regulatory reports such as the 5300 Call Report.
- Assist in preparation for regulatory agency exams and internal/external audits.
- Conduct special accounting studies, analyses, and special projects as requested by management.
- Process incoming and outgoing wire transfers.
- Identify reportable transactions and activities under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), its implementing regulations, and Unison's Anti-Money Laundering program. Comply with requirements under Unison's Member (Customer) Identification Program (CIP), FinCEN 314a procedures, and OFAC regulations and sanction programs.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Requires the ability to operate various office equipment to include a computer, calculator, scanner, and copier.
- Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures.
- Understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements.
- Willing and able to learn/apply new skills and knowledge.

- Associate degree in accounting or related field.
- 3-5 years of related accounting experience desired
- Prior experience working in a Credit Union preferred
- Monday - Friday - Typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a keyboard to enter text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear, interpret and understand speech and/or other sounds to assist our credit union members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to see details at close range most often from a computer screen.
This position requires manual dexterity, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods of time. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Work is performed in an indoor office environment. This position uses standard office equipment, such as but not limited to, computers, check scanner, coin counter, TCR - Teller Cash Recycler, Drive thru canister equipment, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
