Safety Certified Technician
GP Motor Company is seeking a thorough and dependable Safety Certified Technician to inspect newly acquired vehicles and determine their mechanical and safety readiness before they move through the reconditioning process.
This position is responsible for identifying mechanical and safety concerns, documenting findings, completing assigned repairs, coordinating work outside the technician's scope, and verifying that required repairs have been completed. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands automotive systems, pays attention to detail, and takes ownership of each vehicle from inspection through final clearance.

- Perform comprehensive mechanical and safety inspections on newly acquired vehicles.
- Inspect brakes, tires, steering, suspension, lighting, glass, fluids, batteries, HVAC systems, safety equipment, and other mechanical components.
- Record inspection results, measurements, photographs, mechanical deficiencies, and recommended repairs.
- Evaluate applicable vehicles for Utah safety certification requirements.
- Complete mechanical repairs that fall within the established scope of the position.
- Identify and route repairs requiring specialized work, outside vendors, additional parts, authorization, or management involvement.
- Verify that repairs affecting safety or certification have been completed correctly.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the inspection and repair process.
- Assign and account for vehicle keys through the Key Track system.
- Clearly communicate vehicle status, unresolved concerns, delays, and required next steps.
- Place vehicles with unresolved mechanical or safety concerns on a properly documented Mechanical Hold.
- Clear vehicles for the next stage of reconditioning once mechanical and safety requirements have been satisfied.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work area.
- Automotive inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, or repair experience.
- Utah safety inspection certification or the ability to obtain the certification required for the position.
- Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical and safety systems.
- Ability to identify mechanical deficiencies and determine appropriate next steps.
- Ability to complete assigned repairs safely and correctly.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple vehicles and priorities.
- Dependable communication and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned vehicles.
