Employment Type: Hourly, Full-Time; travel and weekend work required
Travel: Regular travel throughout the Intermountain West required
GBI Railroad Services is seeking an experienced Superintendent I to lead field crews in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented railroad construction environment. This role is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with quality standards. The Superintendent I works closely with engineers, subcontractors, and internal leadership while providing direct supervision and coaching to crews in the field.
MajorResponsibilities
- Enforce safety, quality, and production standards among employees and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, supervisors, and others to determine project scope and staffing needs.
- Plan and execute construction processes and daily work activities.
- Maintain daily field reports documenting site conditions, activities, and production.
- Manage punch lists and participate in project closeout activities.
- Provide front-line supervision and real-time performance feedback to crew members.
- Train new hires and onboard crew members to GBI standards and expectations.
- Monitor and report project progress, schedule adherence, and resource needs.
- Order equipment and coordinate maintenance to ensure availability and reliability.
- Coordinate inspections and assist with permitting requirements as applicable.
- Track material inventory, deliveries, and usage.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized job site.
- Respond to and resolve on‑site issues and emergencies.
- Comply with all company policies and federal regulations, including required PPE and safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Business Management, or equivalent work experience preferred.
Experience- 3+ years of experience in a construction supervisory role.
- 5+ years of experience in railroad construction or heavy civil construction.
- Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (FMCSA, DOT, FRA).
- Strong understanding of railroad maintenance and/or railroad construction operations.
- Ability to manage multiple work activities and meet schedule deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, safety, and operations teams. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related construction software.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
