The Career Placement Specialist helps support students and graduates by assisting with career services and job placement activities. This position plays a critical role in connecting students with employment opportunities, supporting career readiness, and fostering relationships with instructors, employers, and community partners. The Specialist supports success of career placement initiatives, compliance with accrediting bodies, and maintains strong outreach efforts to support the college’s mission.
This position would be 20-25 hours per week, days and evenings varied, no remote work- Job Board Management
- Manage and maintain the college’s online job board via Handshake.
- Post, monitor, and update job opportunities and employer profiles.
- Career Placement Data & Reporting
- Collect and analyze career placement data through surveys and outreach.
- Maintain accurate records of graduate employment outcomes.
- Student & Employer Communication
- Conduct career placement phone calls and emails to recent graduates and employers.
- Provide follow‑up support and track placement success.
- Manage career placement email and voicemail.
- Coordinate with academic advisors and faculty with events.
- Career Events Coordination
- Support bi‑annual career fairs, including employer outreach, event logistics, and student preparation.
- Career Advising
- Advise students individually or in groups on career development, résumé writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- Community & Partner Engagement
- Maintain and regularly update the master email list for community and employer partners.
- Support community partner campus visits and presentations.
- Accreditation & Compliance
- Chair the Davis Technical College Career Placement Committee and organize the required annual meeting.
- Review and update the Career Placement Policy annually to ensure alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Associate degree or technical certificate from a technical college.
- Four (4) years of customer service, student services, or career placement experience.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse, fast‑paced environment that involves constant customer contact and varying tasks throughout the day.
- Ability to work effectively as a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of general office procedures and practices, electronic and paper filing systems, and telephone and computer etiquette.
- Proficient skills with computer applications such as Word and Excel, basic computerized bookkeeping, basic mathematics, and utilization of various types of office equipment.
- Proven verbal and written communication competency.
- Ability to work independently while managing work assignments in a highly interpersonal contact environment.
