SALARY RANGE : BU03 | SR11

SALARY RATE: $43,272 (Annual Salary) based on the FTE

SHORTAGE DIFFERENTIAL
: $692/month

A. INSURANCE VERIFICATION – POINT OF SERVICE CASH COLLECTIONS
  • Reviews patient demographic information collected through preadmission, admission, or registration process for accuracy.
  • Contacts insurance carriers to obtain benefits and eligibility for specific insurance plans.
  • Utilizes electronic media to validate insurance plan codes, certificate numbers, and expiration of coverage.
  • Validates certificate numbers for each insurer/subscriber.
  • Enters subscriber verification information into the IBAX hospital patient database system.
  • Updates patient record with specific changes required prior to bill production.
  • Conducts precertification when necessary to ensure coverage for services.
  • Refers continued stay certification to the Utilization Review Coordinator when needed beyond what Department can provide.
B. PREADMISSION/ADMISSION OF PATIENTS
  • Interviews patients or representatives and obtains demographic and primary/secondary insurance information.
  • Updates previous records within the information system or enters new file information.
  • Notifies appropriate hospital personnel of new registrations so that admitting orders can be obtained.
  • Explains hospital policies regarding room accommodations and visitors.
  • Discusses and determines method of payment with patient and/or responsible party, collects deposits, and obtains signatures on all required forms.
  • Initiates and accurately completes all necessary admitting forms.
  • Prepares an addressograph plate showing pertinent patient information by utilizing an electric plastic plate embosser.
  • Prepares a patient wristband and attaches to patient.
  • Assigns patient a bed considering patient needs, special orders from admitting physician, and unit availability.
  • Directs patient to assigned nursing unit and forwards all pertinent documents or escorts patients needing assistance.
  • Inputs additional information into the system as directed.
  • Complies with rules, regulations, rights and statutes of State, Federal, hospital and regulatory agencies.
  • Calculates, obtains and processes advance cash and credit deposits.
  • Works closely with billing department to resolve all billing and collections issues.
C. SWITCHBOARD COVERAGE/CENTRAL COMMUNICATIONS
  • Answers and refers incoming calls to the proper department or person.
  • Maintains record of all toll calls and places emergency calls for medical staff or nursing; serves as main information clerk for entire hospital.
  • Make special announcements over the PA system/Radio and page medical staff and hospital personnel as needed.
  • Announces fires, disasters, or drills to all hospital personnel over the PA system.
  • Refers to disaster procedures and promptly notifies key hospital personnel of an anticipated or actual disaster.
  • Participates in County Civil Defense exercises and dry-runs.
  • Refers employee sick calls to respective department head.
  • Assists in the notification of on-call personnel.
  • Maintains daily sign‑in/out sheet of on call personnel on property.
  • Monitors emergency systems (fire, nitrogen, oxygen, lifeline) and serves as communications control.
D. OTHER UNIT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Distributes precensus and census daily for update by nursing personnel.
  • Updates hospital patient database system to reflect transfers, bed swaps, and discharges as directed by nursing units.
  • Assists in computing and maintaining admitting and census statistics for agencies such as Department of Human Services and Medicare.
  • Distributes copies of admission summaries to departments and physicians.
  • Assists in training new employees on all functions.
  • Processes and distributes incoming/outgoing mail; receives courier deliveries when storeroom closed; receives all returned patient statements, obtains correct mailing address and forwards to patient.
