Position Summary
A large electric utility in Hawaiʻi is seeking an experienced Electrical Inspector to support transmission and distribution (T&D) construction projects across the islands. This role focuses on field inspection, QA/QC, and safety compliance for overhead and underground distribution, URD, and substation work. The Electrical Inspector serves as the utility’s field representative, ensuring work meets approved designs and safety standards. This role is ideal for field-experienced professionals, including journeyman linemen
, with strong knowledge of energized systems and utility construction practices.
- Inspect and monitor contracted T&D electrical construction work for compliance with design standards, safety requirements, and approved work methods
- Perform field inspections on overhead and underground distribution and substation projects
- Verify work quality, materials, and installation methods meet utility and regulatory standards
- Coordinate with operations to support clearances, hold-offs, and limited hold-offs as required
- Identify constructability issues, field conflicts, and safety concerns, and work with contractors to resolve them
- Perform QA/QC inspections and document deficiencies, corrective actions, and progress
- Review project documentation, work packages, and as-built information
- Support safety meetings, job briefings, and field coordination with crews and contractors
- Maintain accurate inspection records and field reports
- 7+ years of experience in T&D electrical construction (overhead, underground, and/or substation)
- Strong hands-on knowledge of utility construction practices and working around energized systems
- Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations
, utility safety rules, and applicable Hawaiʻi construction requirements - Proven ability to work independently in the field and make sound decisions related to safety and quality
- Strong communication and coordination skills with crews, contractors, and utility personnel
- Valid State of Hawaiʻi driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
