🌴 Travel Dual Ultrasound/Vascular Tech | Kealakekua, HI 🌴
Kona Community Hospital is a 94-bed facility that serves as the primary medical hub for West Hawaii. Because it is a smaller, rural hospital, the imaging department relies heavily on travelers who are "double-registered" and comfortable working independently across multiple modalities.

Taxable Pay: $720.00
Non-Taxable Stipends: $2,000.00
Total Gross Weekly: $2,720.00

🌓 Shift: Variable (Requires 36 hours/week; be prepared for Days, PMs, and weekends).
📍
Location:
Kealakekua, HI (Big Island)
🏥 Facility:
Kona Community Hospital
🩺 Role Highlights
Multimodality Mastery:
You must hold active ARDMS registries in General Abdomen (AB), OB/GYN, and Vascular (RVT).
Independence:
The job description explicitly states you "must be able to work alone." On nights or weekends, you may be the only sonographer on-site or on-call for the entire hospital.
Case Variety:
Expect a mix of ER trauma, high-risk OB follow-ups, and inpatient vascular rule-outs.
Equipment: KCH typically utilizes GE Voluson and Logiq systems.
📋 Mandatory Requirements
Certifications:
ARDMS (AB, OB, RVT) are non-negotiable for this role.
CPR:
Current AHA BLS.
State Licensure:
Unlike Radiographers, Hawaii does not currently require a state license for Ultrasound Technologists. Your national ARDMS credentials are sufficient for practice.
Experience:
2+ years of acute care experience is highly recommended due to the "work alone" requirement.
🌊 Life in Kealakekua:
Kona Coffee Country
Kealakekua sits at a higher elevation (about 1,500 ft) above the humidity of the coast, offering cooler temperatures and world-famous coffee farms.
The Housing Challenge:
Hawaii housing is scarce and expensive. As of March 2026, furnished 1-bedroom "Ohana" units (guest houses) near the hospital range from $1,750 to $2,500/month.
Stipend Power:
Your $2,000 weekly stipend ($8,600/month) is purpose-built for this market. Even with a $2,500 rent payment, you are pocketing over $6,000 in tax-free profit per month.
Vibe:
Employees describe KCH as having a strong "Ohana" (family) culture. It is a relaxed environment compared to mainland Level I trauma centers, but the equipment can be older, and resources are sometimes limited.
Adventure:
You are minutes from Kealakekua Bay, the best snorkeling spot on the island, and a short drive to the volcanic landscapes of the south.
