Job DutiesThe Registered Professional Nurse VI, Nurse Manager has 24‑hour responsibility and accountability for the management and operational activities of the Behavioral Health Unit. Primary responsibility is to plan, organize, and control the budget, material resources, capital resources as well as all clinical and non‑clinical functions within the nursing unit; assures safe and therapeutic environment with medications, supplies, and equipment necessary for quality patient care.
The manager determines staffing methodology, directs and coordinates staff activities, monitors performance, ensures competencies, and provides educational needs for all staff. The manager oversees compliance with policies, procedures, and standards, facilitates Interdisciplinary Team Meetings, coordinates care and discharge planning for psychiatric patients. Position may require shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in a psychiatric or acute inpatient setting where nursing care was provided independently within the last two years.
- Six (6) months of supervisory nursing experience, including planning and directing work of others, assigning and reviewing work, advising on difficult problems, timing and scheduling, and training/development.
Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at time of appointment.
License: Current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of nursing theory and practice, nursing techniques, literature, and current trends; familiarity with Joint Commission, federal, state, private regulations; ability to apply nursing theory to planning and care, recognize and evaluate patient symptoms, take appropriate action; ability to plan and schedule work of others and supervise; ability to initiate and maintain good working relationships with others.
