DescriptionThe Registered Professional Nurse works in the Women’s Health Services unit of Kona Community Hospital, a 94‑bed acute care facility serving as the West Hawaii Regional Center. The role involves prenatal, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care, as well as education on women’s health topics such as lactation and birthing. The RN may also be cross‑trained to the operating room for C‑sections when census permits.
Responsibilities- Coordinate nursing care for all patients in the Women’s Health Services unit.
- Participate in patient and family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and specific instructions for nursing care.
- Perform duties during shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Scrub and/or circulate in the OR for repeat C‑sections when applicable.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience: Six months of professional nursing work experience.
- Substitution: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.
- License: Current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
- Knowledge and Abilities: Nursing theory and practice; ability to apply nursing theory to care planning, recognize and evaluate patient symptoms, direct nursing assistants, and work effectively with patients, families, and medical staff.
- Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license may be required for certain positions.
- All civil‑service job vacancies will be posted for a minimum of ten (10) calendar days.
